# Referral rewards

> Invite people with your link and earn USDC from what Katara makes on their paid use, five steps deep, paid once a day.

Invite friends and earn USDC when they use Katara, and when the people they invite do too. Your invite link and code are under **Invite Friends** in the chat app and on the **Referral Rewards** page of the portal at `https://platform.katara.com`.

## Who counts as invited

Every account has a code of six letters and digits, and a link that carries it. A person counts as invited by you when they sign up from your link, from a conversation or picture you shared, or by typing your code under **Have an Invite Code?** when they sign in. The code has to reach their account within 24 hours of its creation and before it pays for anything, by card, App Store or USDC. An account is invited by one person at most, and that never changes. You cannot invite yourself or an account older than yours.

The person you invite gets the usual signup credit and nothing extra.

## What you earn

Each paid request makes Katara a margin: what the customer paid, less what serving it cost. Thirty percent of that margin goes to the people up the invite chain, up to five steps away, halving at each step:

Replies from Katara Community earn from what Katara keeps on them. Rewards accrue as the requests are paid.

Nothing earns on credit Katara gives away: a request paid partly from a signup credit or another grant earns only on its purchased part. Agent runs earn nothing for now. When an earner and the payer share a payout wallet, a paying wallet or a card, the request earns nothing for either.

## When it is paid

Rewards from USDC spend are ready at once. Rewards from card and App Store purchases are held for 30 days first. A refund takes back the rewards its purchase earned, from what you have not been paid yet or from later rewards.

Once a day, at 00:00 UTC, every reward that is ready is paid in USDC on Avalanche C-Chain to your payout wallet, once you have at least $1 ready. The payment is sent to your wallet automatically; **Claim Now** in the portal sends it yourself at any time, with the gas paid by Katara.

Rewards need a payout wallet. **Set Up Your Payout Wallet** creates one, without funding it or approving any spending; one payout wallet belongs to one account. Rewards that never reach a wallet expire a year after they are ready, and you get a reminder in the month before.

The **Referral Rewards** page shows what has accrued, what is maturing, what is ready to pay, what has been paid and what is about to expire, and how many people you have invited at each step.

## Test

Requests paid in test USDC with a Test key earn rewards in test USDC, with no value, so you can see the program work without spending anything.
